Special Intensive Weekend
North Woods Yoga Studio
February 20-22nd, 2015
These classes can be taken singly or as a whole weekend workshop. Friday’s evening class is appropriate for all North Woods Yoga or Iyengar Yoga students. This class will review basic asanas with an emphasis on deeper work. Synchronizing various elements of each asana and bring them to bear on the next asana cultivates mediative awareness. Open to all continuing students of Iyengar yoga.
Saturdays morning class will guide participants in how to bring the foundations of basic work forward to the more complex asanas such as backbends and twists. This class is open to all Iyengar students of one year or more experience, and will be taught with less advanced options for those newer to back bends. Saturday afternoon will be dedicated to a practice for emotional stability and restorative yoga. References to the Yoga Sutras will be threaded within this practice. Pranayama instruction will be offered both Saturday and Sunday morning. Coffee, tea and fruit will be offered after pranayama and before asana.
Bringing our life force, or prana into greater play in our lives is always at the heart of a yoga practice.

Why should you practice Yoga?
"To kindle the divine fire within yourself. Everyone has a dormant spark of divinity in themselves which has to be fanned into flame.”
Teaching since 1982, Mary has been devoted to yoga and to the Iyengar tradition for over three decades. Mary has studied at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial institute in Pune India many times, most recently in February of this year. Mary credits this type of immersion study with enabling her to access the depth and clarity of yoga, and for helping her to guide her students to uncover it as well. Mary is certified at the senior I level and also serves the national Iyengar community as the current Certification Chair. Mary has been offering Iyengar yoga retreats in northern Michigan for 18 years.
