North Woods Yoga Teacher Training

North Woods Yoga, under the direction of Mary Reilly has an Iyengar certified teacher training program. This means it meets the standards set by the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States . Participation in this program does not give trainees certification to teach, but gives practical skills and prepares them to take the national certification exam given by IYNAUS, the above mentioned organization. Participants are recommended to have 2 years of Iyengar Yoga training before taking this course.
The following skills and areas of learning will be addressed:
Teaching skills: |
Clarity of instruction, observation and correction of students, demonstration effectiveness, accuracy and knowledge of asanas and pranayamas, teaching presence, class control, and pacing. |
Anatomy: |
Coverage of some of the basic anatomy that is required of introductory teachers |
Student Teaching: |
Opportunities to be observed teaching a small group to receive feedback. (optional but highly suggested if you will be testing soon). |
Philosophy: |
Discussion of the philosophy of yoga as it is presented in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita. |
Practice Written Exams: |
Most sessions will have a small practice written exam to test your own knowledge. |

About the Instructor: Mary Reilly has been teaching Iyengar Yoga since 1982 and is certified at the Intermediate Senior 1 level. Mary has been an assessor in the Iyengar certification system for 9 years. Mary has studied several times at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune India, most recently in January of 2008.
